Huronia CrossFitters Take on FOUR WORKOUTS in ONE DAY! On Saturday, June 26th, 5 Driven Athletics-Huronia CrossFit members competed in a full day of CrossFit competition. The event included over 100 participants from across the province. Bright and early Saturday morning the first event commenced. It was a beep test, which tested the athletes running, sprinting and endurance capabilities. The Level 1 pace was 8.5 km per hour and increased to an astounding 21 Levels. Alex Jeffrey, owner of Driven Athletics-Huronia CrossFit and teammate Steve Higgins posted the two best scores of the day at Level 14.1 and Level 13.9 respectively. The second event was a Clean-Thruster ladder where athletes perform one Clean-Thruster exercise starting at 155 pounds for Men and 95 pounds for Women. Once the lift is completed, the athlete moves to the next weight. The weight increases by 10 pounds each time. In this workout, the athletes are also required to perform pull-ups between some of the lifts. In the scaled division, Tiffany Cote showed how hard she has worked by completing four consecutive lifts and numerous pull-ups. The third event was an AMRAP, meaning ‘as many rounds as possible’ in 8 minutes. Each round consisted of 5 Deadlifts of 275 pounds for men and 185 pounds for women, 5 handstand pushups for men and 3 handstand pushups for women, 10 kettlebell swings of 70 pounds for men and 50 pounds for women. Joanne Jeffrey and John Gignac each completed over 6 rounds in the 8 minutes securing them a high standing for the event. Joanne was one of only 7 female competitors with the ability to complete the handstand pushups to the high standard. Alex won this event in the men’s division having completed just shy of 8 rounds. The final event was Clean & Jerks followed by Burpees in a sequence of 10, 9, 8….all the way down to 1. The most grueling event of the day had male athletes lifting 135 pounds overhead and females lifting 95 pounds overhead. All Driven Athletics–Huronia CrossFit participants battled through to the final seconds of the workout. In the end, this is how the athletes finished: Joanne Jeffrey 4th, Alex Jeffrey 7th, Steve Higgins 16th, John Gignac 30th, and Tiffany Cote 16th. Alex and Joanne Jeffrey would like to send out a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Tiffany Cote, John Gignac and Steve Higgins for their amazing efforts over the weekend and look forward to the next event!
